July Notes

Okay - still trying to catch up with this. I am going to try posting each film on the day I see it, as I did when I started this blog. Seems like it was easier to keep up with that way. Starting with the film I watched today.

April Notes - Catch Up Time !!

Okay, no posts since February - time to catch up. I have piles of reviews all written up and on my computer but have become seriously behind in thinking about posting them here. I think I'll try to make a go of posting these now (over the next week that is, there's lots!). I'll try, but gosh - it's Robert Taylor day again on TCM starting this afternoon - so many movies to watch, so much to do, so little time!

Sunday Notes

Well, nearly two weeks now since I first got this flu/cold - and I'm still sick! The last days I've kind of relapsed and feel worse than I did. Today, slightly better than yesterday. It's such a drag to be sick.
Anyway, I am still finishing up the Cinecon 45 reviews, slow-going still because I've been a bit bedridden last week, up and down sickness, ugh. I have several more films I'm finishing up the reviews for - then hopefully get them posted in the next few days. And then I still have a backlog of reviews for movies I saw in August to get posted.

Sunday Notes

Continuing with writing up and posting my reviews for the films I saw at Cinecon 45 last weekend - posting here. Slow-going on this because I have been down with a really bad cold and even worse cough that has been worse this weekend than it has been all week (I literally coughed ALL night last night - I am worn out). I went to bed early last night (7 pm) to try and get some rest, then got up early (7:30 am) and managed to watch a movie "High School Confidential (1958)" that I happened to just catch at the beginning on TCM (I enjoyed the film - lots of campy fun - though really was too sick to write up any sort of review for it).

Hopefully I will feel well enough soon to get to watching my Netflix rentals (I have two recent films, plus the new Criterion release of "The Last Days of Disco (1998)" waiting to be watched). I am going to try to watch George O'Brien in "Fig Leaves" soon, plus I have stacks of silents on DVDs that I haven't watched yet, including that new Murnau, Borzage and Fox box set - and when am I going to get to watching my Houdini set which I've had for awhile now?!! Hmm - not movie related, but when will I ever get to watching my "That Girl" sets (I have season 1 and 2, so far) - when I was a kid I thought it would be great to be just like Ann Marie (you know - long, dark hair, work as an actress/model, a cool apartment, a devoted boyfriend, and so many groovy mini-dresses you never had to wear the same one twice).

Saturday Notes

Well, it's Saturday, it's oh so hot and humid outside (when is this heat wave going to end?!). I have become rather behind in posting my movie reviews here - about a month behind, actually. Written up already, but not posted (including several silent films). I'll try and post these reviews over the weekend so that I'm all caught up.

Thursday Notes

Well, I've been on a sort of vacation at home all last week - I went to the World Figure Skating Championships with an all-event ticket over at the Staples Center here in Los Angeles, spent about 55 hours over the course of the week snug as a bug in my seat watching live figure skating by top skaters from around the world (row 4 ticket but ended up being front row of my section with a few rows in front removed for photographers - luckily below eye level - woo hoo!), and had a really great time! Wish I could do something like that every year - see I do have other interests besides movies!
Here's my blog write-up on the event, for those interested.

I have a back-up of movie reviews I have written but haven't posted yet - watched them a few weeks ago, and I've already seen two movies yesterday and today that I'll be putting reviews up for soon as I can.

Monday Notes

Well, I've been busy, busy, busy the last week - I did fit in three movies but haven't had a chance until now to post reviews. Last Thursday, December 18th, I watched "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor", hmm - not so great, and a thirties French film, "Liliom", which I really enjoyed. December 19th - my birthday. Earlier in the day I watched "Mamma Mia!", fun musical. Went out in the evening - to the Tam O'Shanter for dinner for those interested, a neat place that was once frequented by silent stars, like fave Mary Pickford - - http://www.lawrysonline.com/tamoshanter_gen_info.asp

It's been mighty cold and rainy lately - I love winter!

Sunday Notes

After a busy week preparing for and hosting a large Thanksgiving dinner/party - it's back to the movies for me again. I managed to watch two DVDs on Friday that I needed to send back to Netflix to get two more that are coming out this Tuesday, but had another party on Saturday to go to - so my reviews from Friday are coming today!

Wednesday Notes

Hurrah - October has arrived, the start of my three favorite months of the year - October, November, December. Of course, with the 100 degree heat of today and yesterday it still seems like the middle of summer - ugh, I can't wait for it to cool off. Anyway, since it was so hot yesterday it was a nice afternoon to sit in the cool downstairs TV room (upstairs where my computer is, blazing, even with the air conditioner blasting all afternoon) and watch "French Cancan". And after watching French Cancan, where the lead actress wears oh so many pretty pink dresses, it reminded me of that other pretty-in-pink red-haired gal - one from the 80s, so last night I watched my DVD of "Pretty in Pink". Reviews below.

Monday Morning Notes

1. My main TV set has blown a tube or something - it won't turn on. I'm looking into buying a new one - HDTV - but can't really watch any movies until I get it, as all I have is a very small TV set up there right now - I just don't know how much I could enjoy a film on such a small screen. Speaking of blowing a tube - that makes me think of when I was a kid and our TV set would break, my mom would bring the busted tube to a store where she would place it on a testing machine to find the correct replacement for it.

2. Big Brother started very late last night - supposed to start at eight - it was almost ten when it started (they were showing U.S. Open Tennis). While waiting I watched the end part of old favorite "Gidget" on TCM, then - though the picture looked so small on that littler TV - part of "Cleopatra" (1912) which was ruined by having a hideous music score attached to it - horrific!

3. Watching "Big Brother" it was getting on close to 11 pm near the end part - which I missed as I fell asleep in my chair sitting up! I remember being a teen and poking fun at my dad when he used to fall asleep sitting up in front of the TV - look at me now!
